Sault Cougars Split Weekend Series with Adrian Bulldogs: Kovacs Leads Comeback with Hat Trick
The Sault Cougars rebounded from a tough Friday night loss to the Adrian Bulldogs with a determined effort on Saturday, earning a weekend split in their home-and-home series.
Friday, November 7 – Adrian 4, Sault 1
The series opened Friday night with the Cougars struggling to find their offensive rhythm against a sharp Bulldogs squad. Despite a strong start, Sault couldn't capitalize on early chances, while Adrian's consistent pressure and opportunistic scoring made the difference.
Jakob Kovacs provided the lone bright spot for the Cougars, scoring the team's only goal late in the third period.
Cougars goaltender Keenan Marks faced a heavy workload, turning aside 24 of 88 shots in the loss.
Saturday, November 8 – Sault 5, Adrian 3
Determined to bounce back, the Cougars came out firing on Saturday, led by a spectacular performance from Jakob Kovacs, who recorded a hat trick to propel Sault to a 5–3 victory.
Caleb Wood opened the scoring in the first period followed by Jakob Kovacs late in the second and added a pair of goals in the third to add the win and complete a four-goal weekend. Cameron Lemcke netted one late in the third for the go-ahead goal, while the team's defensive play tightened considerably compared to the previous night.
Goaltender Trennis Riley was again solid between the pipes, making 28 saves and shutting down several key Bulldog power plays in the game.
Jonah Des Rosiers, Ethan Novello, Piper Post, Brock Santa Maria, Nick Jameus, Brodie McLeod, and Caleb Wood all assisted on goals this weekend
With the weekend split, the Cougars improved their season record and showed resilience after Friday's setback.
The Cougars will look to carry that momentum into next weekend as they face the LSSU Lakers at the Taffy Abel Areana, Sunday Nov 16, 2025 @ 1:00PM
